Foreword
Welcome to Anth Roads! I have created this blog to showcase my experiences in the staggeringly diverse field of anthropology, the "most humanistic of the sciences and the most scientific of the humanities." While I typically identify as a practicing/applied anthropologist, I make it a point to exercise, explore, and advocate for the myriad applications of the anthropological subdisciplines. By and large, I subscribe to the "American" anthropological tradition, wherein four subdisciplines are firmly established: cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, biological anthropology, and archaeology. While I do not consider myself an authoritative voice in any of these subdisciplines, I do like to engage with each of them with some intellectual rigor, often veering into the domains of other disciplines like sociology, political science, capitalism studies, public policy, public health, history, urban planning, geography, philosophy, and the arts.
As you can probably tell, there are many "roads" one can go down, and I am fortunate to have traipsed down many of them in my work and studies. I will note, however, that my primary interests pertain to the intersections of culture, health, and environmentalism. I critically engage with how social, biological, and ecological phenomena coalesce, trying to understand the many complex processes which shape (and are shaped by) our worlds, worldviews, bodies, beliefs, and behaviors.
In addition to my reflections and short essays, will be posting some of my fiction, poetry, and art. Everything here is, to a non-negligible degree, inspired by my peregrinations down the "Anth Roads." I would like to clarify that none of what I post here is peer-reviewed research (if any of you care about that sort of thing). Rather, this is more of an outlet for my fixation on this fantastic discipline, the incredible experiences I've had in it, and the brilliant minds I've met along the way. I do not have a set schedule (I am a PhD. candidate, so my academic responsibilities take precedence), but I will attempt to make a post somewhere on this site at least once a week. This could be a work of art, a poem, or a short piece of writing.
Lastly, if any of you are as interested in anthropology as I am, I will be assembling a list of resources and websites. You can find them under "Resources" in the "More..." submenu.
So please, feel free to take a cruise down the Anth Roads. This site is far from finished, and there's some "road work" ahead. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy your time here!
